Yesterday we salvaged wild grasses from a soon to be demolished site in Durham. We'll be replanting these nearby on Prairie Island in Durham - adding resilient genetic diversity to our native nursery plants.
We had an incredible time with Ontopo last week in the Sian Ka'an biosphere in Mexico - leading a workshop on mangroves. Like all plants, mangroves literally birth the sky - or at least the part of the sky breathable for humans by producing oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide. It just so happens that mangroves are incredibly good at this - the mangroves in the Sian Ka'an biosphere store about 185.7 million MG of CO2- which is about half of Mexico's 2009 carbon emissions. Pretty impressive considering the plants only take up 0.09% of Mexico's land area.
We're excited to get to work on Pollinator Gardens on the American Tobacco Trail
